Uterine fibroids are one of the most common conditions in women’s health — and one of the least discussed. Research estimates that up to 70 to 80 percent of women will develop fibroids by the time they reach age 50. Among Black women, that prevalence is higher, the onset is earlier, and the symptoms tend to be more severe. Despite how common they are, most women who have fibroids don’t know it — because many fibroids cause no symptoms at all.

The Fertility Conversation Your OB/GYN Wishes You’d Started Sooner
One of the most common things we hear from patients in their mid-to-late 30s who are thinking about having children — or wondering if they still can — is some version of the same regret: “I wish I had asked about this earlier.” Not because the conversation would have produced different outcomes in every case, but because knowing earlier allows for informed choices. It removes some of the urgency and replaces it with something more useful: time to understand what you’re working with.
